PERSONALITY
| STRENGTHS: Electric current, speed, beauty.
| WEAKNESSES Gets carried away, goes to extreme lengths to get what she wants, finds her talent fascinating and can scare people.
| HABITS: Flicking hair, poking tongue out to tease people.
| OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Kate can be described as a laid back, easy going vampire. She is not as serious as her sister Tanya. She rolls her eyes often, and appears to be fearless of danger. One of the few things she cannot tolerate is the breaking of law. Kate and her Denali family are 'purists' when it comes to vampire laws, due to her mother's cruel execution. She fears immortal children, and not only because it brings back the painful memories of her mother's death.
Kate is very passionate and determined. She would rather fight to the death on the side of those she loves than sit on the sidelines, guaranteeing self-preservation. Though she was told a fight against the Volturi would be a suicide mission, Kate grins and shrugs nonchalantly, "I'm in." She has proven to be especially loyal, particularly to the Cullens whom she considers extended family or cousins. She has a conscience, which is the main reason why she feeds on animal blood.
Some negative traits of Kate's are that sometimes she can be too focused on something that she doesn't realise she's being cold. For example, when she is helping Bella harness her own talent, she suggests using Renesmee as motivation. She took it too far, but she was oblivious. She just wanted Bella and the rest of them to have the best chance possible at surviving against the Volturi.
Also, Kate doesn't particularly like the Volturi, to put it mildly. Though she obeys their rules and abides by the law, she does not believe the executions are right. She hates Jane, Aro and Caius, but feels some sympathy towards Marcus, the vampire who lost his mate. Kate holds grudges, and she does not get over them quickly.

| HISTORY:
Over one thousand years ago, there was a young couple whose names were Lucille and Edwin Dahlquist. They were very devoted to God. They sustained from sex until marriage, and above all they believed in gender roles. Men were the fighters, the hunters, the most important in a family. Whereas the women existed to cook food and bear children. It was only natural that Katerina and Edwin wanted a son, someone noble and bold who they could be proud of.
The arranged couple got married six months after they met, but were very much in love. Not long after holy matrimony, they were blessed with the great news that Lucille was pregnant. The couple was thrilled, but not surprised, that they would soon have a progeny. Over the nine months, Lucille and Edwin mapped out their lives together, certain that their child would be the son they had always wanted. They pictured him to be intelligent, dignified, couragous and perfect overall.
This perfect bubble of theirs burst when Lucille gave birth to a baby girl. They were genuinely surprised, and more than a little dumbstruck. What were they going to do, now that they had told everybody that they would have a son? Distraught, the two parents changed their life course. They still loved their baby girl, who they eventually named Katrina, but a boy was still their main priority. They would try again - again, again and again - until Lucille gave birth to a perfect son.
As Katrina grew up, she stuck close to her mother's side as she performed routine tasks within her gender role. These most often included washing clothes in a tub with wooden paddles, sewing and knitting clothes, as well as preparing meals and cooking food. Kate watched from a very young age, never questioning rights as she was too young and naive to see anything wrong with it. Though she was close to her mother, Kate did not see much of her father. Not only was he busy out and about, but his attitude to her was apathetic.
After a few years of struggles and fertility issues, Lucille was finally pregnant again. They were overjoyed, but this time they were reserved with their celebrations. There was a fifty percent chance of another girl, after all. They told the news to a then four year old Kate, who grasped very well that she would have a brother or sister. It did not occur to Lucille or Edwin that Kate might be smarter than they thought.
Another nine months passed and Lucille and Edwin got what they wanted. A blue eyed baby boy who they named Luther. From the moment his parents gazed apon him, Luther was destined to be a spoilt child. Even Kate could sense that she would not be receiving much attention, not that she got much, but she accepted it as something she couldn't be changed. According to her limited knowledge, this was supposed to happen.
Just as the little girl suspected, Luther became spoilt. Lucille and Edwin lingered on his every breath like he was the most important thing on the planet. He was a funny baby, making stupid noises that his parents would laugh at and praise him for. His parents could see everything they dreamed of, slowly coming true before them. Luther would be the most perfect son in history.
Kate grew up, constantly in the shadow of her younger brother. Never did she hear of her parents boasting to their friends about her developing talent for painting, nor her special cooking ability. The only conversations were about Luther, and how special he was and what great things he would acheive in his lifetime. Kate didn't want much, but she felt she should get some attention from her supposed parents.
On Luther's fourth birthday, when Kate was nearly nine, a huge threatening thunderstorm loomed over their little house. Kate was instantly fascinated with the dark rolling clouds, thunder, and above all the lightning that came with it. She escaped the superficial joy of her brother's birthday, and walked outside to fields. The fields were filled with crops and trees that the family harvested, but she was not out to see the grass grow. She squinted up into the dark sky, awe plain on her face as she stared up into the eye of the storm. Heavy rain was hitting her head and wrecking her pretty dress, but she wasn't fussed about it. Eventually the thunder and lightning came, and curiousity got the better of her. She ran to a tall tree and climbed to its highest branches, determined to have a better look at the lightning. This move was ultimitely stupid, though, because as soon as she got to the top a bolt of lighting shot down the middle of the tree.
The current passed through Kate's body, and the force of the lightning immediately threw her from the tree. She hit the ground and pain coursed through all of her body. Her shrill scream echoed in the night as the pain localized to her leg. The pain was worse than she had ever experienced, and she clutched to her leg as she pain kept increasing. Her parents eventually came to her aid - it took them ten minutes to notice she was missing, and another fifteen to find her - and they concluded that she had a broken leg. Her leg was then fitted with a homemade 'cast' using wood and leather. Her leg was healing for eight weeks, and she was so frustrated that she could not walk around properly.
During her healing time, every now and then Kate swore she could feel the electric current of the lightning tingling on her fingers. Whenever this happened she would close her hand into a fist, and it would disappear as quickly as it came over. This would only happen a few times, until it stopped happening completely. Eight weeks eventually passed, and she was relieved to be able to walk again.
Over the years, Kate matured immensely and became a teenager. She proved herself to be intelligent and adaptable, bending to the changes that came with her life. She ended up having another sibling, yet another brother. By this time she was sick of her parents' joyous celebrations over having male children. It was at this stage of her life when she realised it was wrong for women to be treated inferior. Why did she have to all the work in the house? How come her brothers got to go to school, when they were as dumb as soup? Kate would have very much liked to have gone to school, but her gender was an impossible barrier stopping her. She approached her mother about it, but her only words were "This is how it is, and how it was meant to be."
Kate couldn't deny it - she was really bored with her life. The next few years she was apethetic, not being very emotional or caring about anything. Her brothers were a different story, and as they slowly progressed into adulthood, they became like celebrities in their little villiage.
Kate's human life took its last turn when one drizzly day she was out in the fields, inspecting the latest crops. From the corner of her eye she could see a painfully beautiful woman staring at her from a distance. Kate blinked and turned to face the woman, but she was gone. She paused for a few seconds, then continued with her work. Suddenly she felt something pierce into her neck, and she felt fire spread through her body. This was worse than anything, even the lightning. She struggled and tried to push the 'animal' off her, but its cold, stone body would not budge. She felt she would die from the fire that was spreading through her pain, and for a moment she thought she was going to hell. But for what? Was this what happened when a woman disputed the gender roles? She was barely conscious of somebody picking her up, or the rain that pelted her body as the woman ran at amazing speed. All she could think of was the fire.
Three long, blistering days later, the pain started to null and Kate's heart charged to its last pumps. With one last painful surge, her heart beat its last beat. Kate sat up in a start, and was then introduced to the supernatural world she was completely oblivious to. Kate was guided into her vampire life by fellow vampire Sasha, who had turned her. Kate met Tanya, a strawberry blonde vampire who was already passed her newborn years. Together they taught her how life a vegetarian lifestyle and how to sustain from human blood. She was also told the laws, and she instantly feared this 'Volturi'.
Kate would never forget her first hunting trip with her adoptive mother and sister. She was overwhelmed by the thirst and bloodlust of her new life, and was very possessive of the animals she would hunt. She would growl at anybody that came within a hundred metres of her target, and any step in its direction would result in someone losing a limb.
But Kate did not completely sustain from human blood. The Denali sisters, particularly Kate and Tanya, were the origins of the Succubus myth. Kate particularly liked men, even human men, and would seduce them and then drink their blood. The men would commonly die, and it was only after their deaths that Kate would feel horrible. She no longer does this, and only drinks animal blood.
A few months later, Irina was turned and joined the vampire family. Kate shared a special bond with her right from the beginning, as she had a similar sexist upbringing. Overall, Kate was glad to have endured the painful change of human to vampire. It was the best thing that had ever happened to her. She at last had the sisters and the mother she had always wanted and she was treated like an equal. Sasha, Tanya and Irina were the greatest gifts she could have ever received.
Many years passed, and the four never aged a day. They travelled around the world, eventually settling in Denali, Alaska. They stuck to themselves, and stayed away from curious humans and the Volturi. Their bonds only got stronger, and they loved eachother with more emotion than any biological human family was capable of.
The sisters' lives took a turn for the worst when the Volturi visited their family. It was revealed that Sasha had broken the vampire law and created an immortal child, and would be punished. When she realised this offence was punishable by death, Kate screamed and tried to attack the Volturi guard before Sasha could be executed. Irina and Tanya held her back, but her rage made her stronger. As her hatred for the Volturi spread like a current through her body, a real current of electricity spread onto her palms and jolted her sisters. They grabbed hold of her again and restrained her, but Kate could not grab hold of her newfound ability again that day. The innocent vampires cried tearless sobs as they saw Sasha burned, the immortal child Vasilii in her arms. The remaining members of the family vowed to never break any Volturi laws. They didn't want to lose another family member.
Kate coped with the grief of losing her adoptive mother by practicing her electric current abilities. She thought that she should try to improve it, to make Sasha proud. She couldn't deny her real intentions - to someday kick some Volturi butt and avenge Sasha's death. After years and years of practice, Kate was able to project the current all over her body and use it whenever it was called upon.
Some years later, the coven was joined by Carmen and Eleazar, two vampires prepared to trade their red eyes for gold. The Denali sisters welcomed them with open arms, and the new members quickly became family to Kate as well. The Denalis met the Cullens some years later, and were thrilled to see they were not the only vampires with a conscience. Kate became friends with all of them, particularly Edward, Alice, Carlisle and Esme. She was sympathetic to Tanya, whom Edward had just turned down. She didn't understand how anybody could turn down such a woman, but Kate could do better.
More and more years later, Kate and the other Denalis heard of Edward's wedding to a human girl, Bella Swan. Kate was a little shocked, at first thinking that he had adopted a lifestyle similar to Kate's former life of a succibus. She shook the thought from her head instantly. She knew Edward wouldn't betray Carlisle and the rest of his family. Bella must have been really special. The Denali's attended the pair's wedding and Kate at last met Bella.
A few months later the Denali's were called upon again by the Cullens. Not much was revealed to them, but they would remain true to their 'cousins'. When little Renesmee was revealled, the half vampire baby of Edward and then-human Bella, Kate was horrified, assuming that they had created an immortal child. When she heard the girl's heartbeat, she relaxed and allowed the half vampire baby to touch her.
Kate loyally sided with the Cullens in their confrontation with the Volturi. She was determined that no innocent people would be killed. She helped vampire Bella master her mental shield, shocking Edward as motivation. When that didn't work, she was instead thinking of shocking little Renesmee. Bella's shield went up straight away, and it was successful in motivating her. Though Bella was a bit annoyed, it was for the greater good of the Cullens and the other vampires who were standing by their side.
While in Forks, Kate developed a special bond with nomad vampire Garrett. Garret quickly befriends Kate, as he is fascinated by her electric shock talent. They spend a lot of time together and discussed various subjects, in particular the Denali's diet.
After what seemed like an eternity, the day of doom loomed upon them. It was the day they would face against the Volturi, and Kate vowed she would fight if it came down to it. She was forced to watch her sister Irina ripped apart and burned, and her wild hatred caused her to lash out again, just like years before when her mother was executed. Garrett held her back, and though she shocked him multiple times, Garrett stopped her from doing something she'd regret. After the confrontation against the Volturi, she becomes Garrett's mate and they return to Denali together.
