| GENERAL APPEARANCE:
Jacob stands at 7'0" feet tall, with a toned and thick muscled body, similar to that of a bodybuilder. However his tremendous height balances his large muscle mass so that he does not look out of proportion. In New Moon, upon discovering his werewolf powers and joining the Quileute pack, he crops his long black hair short. Later he grows it out to chin length in Eclipse because he thinks Bella prefers it longer. He tends to wear only cut-off style jeans or sweatpants, saying that when turning from human to a wolf and back he doesn't like to have to carry a lot of clothes since they are ruined during transformation. Jacob is also the tallest character in the series, towering over Alice by nearly three feet and describing her as about the size of one of his arms.
As a wolf, Jacob is about 100" inches in length and about 7'0" feet tall, has russet brown fur, dark eyes that show intelligence, and is very swift. He is also the second fastest and the second largest in the pack. He later grows to be the largest and strongest, but Leah Clearwater is still the fastest wolf of the pack. Jacob is also acknowledged by Sam to be the pack's strongest fighter. Bella is still amazed that Jacob did not take the role of Alpha while he was in Sam's pack.

| OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Jacob's personality shifts throughout the books as he matures. In Twilight, he seems very friendly though shy and slightly sheepish around Bella, easily succumbing to her flirtations and worrying about how the Quileute legends will affect her perception of him. However, in New Moon Jacob goes from being his old, happy self to becoming sullen and temperamental. This is because he is experiencing the change of shape-shifting. In Eclipse, he becomes a lot more confident that Bella is really for him - so much so that he makes her realize that she does love him after all. He also seems to be somewhat rebellious, as how he encouraged Bella to sneak out to visit him and how they ditched school so they could spend time alone as friends.

| HISTORY: Jacob was the first one to introduce the idea that Edward was a vampire. He told her the Quileute legends because he thought it was just a story, and he wanted to scare her a little. Jacob turned up to Bella's prom under his fathers orders to ask Bella to break up with Edward.
In New Moon, Jacob's crush on Bella turns to love as they spent more time together. They rebuilt old bikes and rode them, hung out with the wolfpack and went to the movies, along with Mike. Jacob became Bella's sun and supported her through the heartache of Edward leaving.
Their relationship got more complicated when Jacob discovers he's a werewolf, mortal enemy to all vampires. Jacob initially promised his pack that he'd stay away from Bella, but escapes the Alpha's gag rule because Bella remembered the stories he told her. He saves her life many times, from Laurent, Paul and her own stupidity of jumping off a cliff.
When Edward returns to Forks, Jacob tries to stay away from Bella and ignores her calls. Instead they communicated through notes like they're second grade. Bella eventually sneaks off to La Push without Edward knowing, and they find a way to be friends even though they fight a lot. During one day at La Push, Jacob kisses Bella but she broke her hand when she punched his jaw. Jacob and Edward forget their hatred for each other in the tent, for once getting along like normal people. Later on, Jacob over hears Bella and Edward's marriage plans, and runs away. Under Bella's request, Edward brings him back and leaves them alone to talk. Jacob says that he's going to kill himself because Bella doesn't love him, and Bella asks him to kiss her to keep him alive. During the kiss, Bella discovers that she's in love with Jacob too. In the newborn fight, Jacob breaks all the bones on the right side of his body. Bella visits him, but he is a little annoyed that Edward didn't get angry when he heard he'd kissed her. Bella informs Jacob that while she loves Jacob deeply, she has still chosen Edward. While heartbroken over her choice, Jacob doesn't show it, and reluctantly agrees to stop trying to take Bella from Edward. Jacob reminds Bella that he will always be there for her whenever she needs him.
Jacob and Leah are sitting at the edge of a cliff, with Jacob thinking about how difficult it will be when Bella is turned into a vampire. Leah tells him to get over Bella, and Jacob angrily tells her to leave him alone before he goes home. At home he finds that Edward has sent him a wedding invitation to Bella and Edward's wedding. Enclosed was a note from Edward, saying that Jacob did not have to come to the wedding, but that if Edward was in Jacob's shoes, he would want a choice. Edward thanks Jacob for everything. Unable to endure his human emotions any longer, he phases into a wolf, and runs away.
