Esme sighed as she looked out at the very huge back yard. The Sun was shining onto her skin, making her look like a diamond. A living, talking, breathing, walking diamond. However, she was in no mood to feel the beams on her perfect & faint skin. She was worried, about her family, about Bree...Esme put all of her heart and soul into the family, and she couldn't bear to lose anybody, not now, not ever!
Esme ran her fingers through her hair before she heard Emmett & Jasper inside, almost ignoring their wives, and it reminded Esme of her own husband. There was a smile on her face, but not for long as she reminded of how long it had been since the two had been together. Too long.
With that, Esme decided that she wasnt going to stay home and wait for carlisle, but go to the hospital and just stand there until it was his break...Considering he didnt need to 'eat', she knew that she could spend the break just with him, and him alone. There wouldn't be any worry that some one would kill some one, or that there would be some one stupid enough to challenge Emmett to a wrestling match...It would just be them two.
With that in mind, she stood upa nd headed back inside. "Im going to head out to the hospital!" she yelled through out the house, though she could've whispered and her family still owuld've heard. "I should be back soon, and Ill have my mobile with me if you need any help!" she said, hopign that they didnt. Sure, she had all the time in the world for her family, but she hadnt had any for her husband in quite a long time. She didnt like it, in the least.
Esme walked out again to see the had-been sunny day had turned into the usual drizzly day, the rain spitting down from the sky gently, and the sun no where to be seen. Perfect. It meant she didnt need to cover up.
She smiled again at the thought of seeing her husband again.
Finally, she got into the car and turned the key to start the car.
Although Esme tried to stay on the speed limit, she found that her excitement to see her husband had gotten in the way. Finally, after a short while (very short, considering how fast she had been going), the Forks Hospital came into view, and Esme's face just lit up.
She walked into the hospital, and followed the scent of her husband, ignoring the blood she could smell, and other chemicals. Considering her husband worked in the hospital, she had most certainly learned to get used to it.
Finally, his scent had gotten so strong that she only took one more step around the corner before she saw the love of her life...in the coffee room.
She tapped on the window and just smiled at him.

Carlisle had gone to work early that morning. There was an emergency and he was needed, not that he had anything else to be doing, besides watching over the new member of the family, Bree. But there were plenty of other vampires in the Cullen household that could put her back in check if it was needed. He only hoped that they would not rip each other's throats off while he was gone for the day. He could have taken off more work, because it wasnt that they needed the money, but in truth he missed his job. Plus even he needed to get out of the house once in a while and his work had started to be a safe haven for him. He was however missing the company of his wife, who he felt that he hadnt had any real alone time with since before they brought Bree into their home.
Nowadays they were trying to watch out and make sure that Bree didnt hurt Bella, that Jasper was still in control while trying to train the newborn. Jasper was still new to the family even though he has been here but his old habits were hard to break. Carlisle had faith in him though. Saying that made Carlisle think of the days of his childhood, with his father. The son of a gun had put so many ideas in his head about vampires that when he turned himself into one he was disgusted , he wanted to kill himself, to makde sure that another creature of the night was not loose in the city. Of course that was impossible and Carlisle would know that if he were to be gone now his family and all the good he has done would be lost.
Carlisle had been working all morning, sewing up stitches, fixing broken bones, all the usual things that he was put up to do. But it was finally break time and even though Carlisle did not need to eat he liked that he could sit down and get off his feet. He would never tire but pretending to be human for so long had put in some humanistic habits, like wanting to sit instead of stand, and sometimes it was just pure lazyness. Carlisle walked into the Break room, sighing and deciding to pour himself a cup of coffee, even though he probably wouldn't drink it but he liked the smell.
A tapping on the window of the room made Carlisle turn around, slowly, more humanistic. Of course before he even turned around he knew who it was. His beloved wife Esme. She brightened his day. He loved her and was happy that they got to share forever together, for there was no one else he would rather be with. They were perfect together in many different ways. They both were compassionate and treated the other vamps as their children, and looked after them as such. Esme did get a little over the top sometimes but he usually gave her a gentle reminder or help and she was alright again.
Carlisle went to the door and opened it smiling wide seeing his beautiful wife there. “hello darling, what brings you to my work today” His voice rang in his ears as he pulled her for a hug, and leaned down to kiss her cheek. He loved her so much that words would never be able to express it.

Esme looked at her husband, just wanting him to hurry and turn to look at her. However, he seemed to tease her and stay at the human pace, even though nobody except the two of them were around. Still, Esme knew better than anybody else that she needed to be careful. That they all did! Soon, they would need to move. People were catching on to how Carlisle, Esme, Alice, Emmett, Jasper, Edward & Rosalie hadnt ages what so ever in almost four or five years! Still, she didnt want to leave. She loved it here, and she kne that Edward couldn't leave Bella, not with what had happened the year before. It would kill him, and Esme cared for Edward so much...in fact, she did so even more than the others! After all, he was her first son.
Esme finally walked into the coffee room, and flinched at the smell. She had never really liked the smell of coffee, and much less the taste. She was more of a lover of lavender, of roses. After all, she was a mother of six children, including Bree. She had that motherly touch in everything she liked, or did...or even touched! Her hansds were soft, just like her eyes and hair (which was up in a messy bun & chopsticks), as well as the way she looked at somebody. Now, she was a mother, and a wife. Nothing else. At least, not yet...she knew that one she helped Bree become a vegetarian vampire, she would talk to Carlisle about training herself the next time they moved, and getting her own job...hopefully as a school teacher, seeing she had been before she had been changed.
Finally, she heard him speak and pull her into a hug. She smiled, and would've blushed if she could, as he kissed her cheek. She found however, that she wanted more than just a peck on the cheek, so she leaned up and kissed his lips lovingly, like he deserved.
"Well, I miss you...We've hardly spent any time together since Bree...maybe even before that. So, I decided to come and see you during your break" she said, and smiled.
"However, if this is a bad time...I could always leave and just stay at home with our children" she said, then as a joke started to walk away from him, taking her hand out of his.

Carlisle was pleasantly surprised that his wife kissed him, because it was the very thing he wanted. Before she said anything else he kissed her again, passionately, like it had been forever since they had had any type of contact. He breathed in her scent, she smelled good to him, and even them touching each other was warm. Since they were the same temperature it was normal to them both. He smiled at her. “Dont worry I have missed you to. I was just thinking myself how I wanted to whisk you away, maybe to our island for another honey moon.” Carlisle smiled, he knew of course that with Bree here that wouldn't be happening any time soon. All of the Cullens would be preocupied in teacher her their ways and in trying to make her not kill Bella. Which he was thinking about talking to Edward soon about that, and what he was thinking to make her as comfortable as possible. The wedding was coming up so soon, and the honey moon. Carlisle wondered how it would all work, but he had the utmost faith in his son.
“Nope this is the perfect time “ Carlisle smiled and leaned down to kiss her again “besides the nurses were trying to get me to go out to lunch with them again for the third time this month and this gives me the perfect opportunity to have a real excuse to say no, instead of making up one” He flashed his beautiful wife a grin, showing his perfectly white teeth. He grabbed her hand and pulled her along side him, “How about we go to the courtyard and talk? I have about an hour for lunch, and if there are no emergencies I might be able to make it for a bit longer than that” Carlisle rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb, marveling over the smoothness of her skin even after this long of a time. “you are truly extraordinarily beautiful you know that” He smiled at her, watching as the other nurses looked at them in awe, in jealousy of his wife. They knew that he was married but still wanted to think that the off chance he would cheat on her. Carlisle would never of course.
The courtyard was filled with many flowers and other scenery things that were supposed to be pleasant for the patients. However, because this was forks and there was a lot of not so sunny weather, a lot of the plants didn't stay colorful and they could only plant those that could last the harsh winters. Neever less, it did have some pretty stone carvings. “here we go” Carlisle smiled at Esme, turning to her and leading her to one of the marble benches.

Esme looked at her husband and smiled before his lips was back onto hers. She loved his kisses, even if they were just the soft ones. However, she was pleasantly surprised as his kiss was passionate, and just as warm as anything else. She continued to kiss him before he pulled back to talk to her. She didnt want to end the kiss though, and was about to lean in to place her lips on his when she heard his purposol. "Soon, once Bella & Edward come back from their honey moon, we'll think about it. Does that sound fair?" she asked, raising an eyebrow before she grinned. She liked the thought of escaping with him, with her husband. She just missed him so much. She missed his scent, she missed his warmth, and she missed him compassion that she had fallen in love with. All together though, she just missed him. Her perfect husband.
Esme decided to not tell Carlisle about the talk she had already had with Bree, knowing then she would have to tell him about her husband that she had run away from...the abusive one that had almost killed her on multiple occasions. She hadnt even told him about the son she had lost days after giving birth to him. All he knew was that she had tried to commit suicide, and not the reasons behind it.
And in her eyes, he didnt really need to know.
Esme just took in his velvety voice, not speaking until he finished completely. She wanted to take in each word he said. "Well, Im glad I could be of assistance" she responded and leaned up to kiss his lips. "And the courtyard sounds beautiful" she responded and nodded her head, then looked down at his thumb stroking hers gently.
Esme's smile grew to an irramovable grin,t hat would stay on her face for as long as Carlisle wanted it to. "Ive heard you say that Im 'extrodinarily beautiful' enough times..." she insisted, and looked down like the shy child she had been when she had first met Carlisle...first fell in love with him. She had been sixteen, and he had been her doctor mending her broken leg. She had always known what kind of person she wanted to be with after she met him. She wanted some one exactly like Carlisle! In stead, she got the very person she would always love. She placed a strand of her caramel hair behind her ear, and looked like she would've blushed if she could've. In fact, her entire face would've turn red if she still had blood in her viens that didnt belong to a poor animal.
She walked out to the courtyard with Carlisle, sitting down next to him on the marble benches that weren't nearly as cold as Esme was.
That ANY vampire was for that matter.
She continued to smile, and it was because of him. Finally, she found a conversation topic. It was one they spoke about many times, but it usually led to an interesting conversation, so she tried it.
"So...how was work then, baby?" she asked.

Carlisle sighed when Esme started about work. It had been a long day already, even though the day was only half over. This morning there had been two things happening simultaneously. First, there was a huge car accident on the highway and people had to be transported to all of the nearest hospitals, about three people were killed and five more were injured. Then there was an outbreak of an unknown disease that made it so the whole hospital had to be locked down and everybody tested until the source of it was identified and it contained. All of this was before ten, and Carlisle didn't have a break until just then when he took his own break. He had been busy!
Carlisle smiled over at Esme, about to tell her all about his hectic morning when he remembered something. They had told each other a long time ago they would talk about what really happened to her in her human life. But they never had, it just kept getting pushed back. They just had been busy keeping and raising their family, making sure that they stayed safe, they stayed hidden. And it wasnt that Carlisle didn't want to talk to her about it, but he didn't want to push her into telling him something she wasn't herself ready to share. So he went back to telling her about his morning, figuring that was a better topic.
“It has been crazy. “ Carlisle gave her another smile and took her hand. “But lets not talk about that, lets talk about us. I feel like I have been losing my best friend, that I dont know about you anymore. So what has been going on with you? Is there any thing you want to tell me? You know im still here for you when you need me”

Esme looked over to Carlisle, knowing that she would tell him soon about her past. And soon was incrdedibly close. She doubted she could even go with out telling him after a minute. It was just that look in his eyes. She could tell what he wanted before he even said anything. She truly knew him that well. However, she also knew that Carlisle knew her better than she even knew herself! She bit her lip and traced circles on the back of his hand with her thumb, smiling to herself as she did so.
Esme placed a strand of her hair behind her ear. The caramel color against the beautiful, pale skin would make any goddess weep with jealousy. Esme was beautiful, as Carlisle had told her many times However, Esme would always believe Carlisle was the most beautiful vampire she had ever laid eyes on, no matter what happened. He was perfect, especially in her eyes.
Finally, Esme took in what he said and smiled slightly and nodded her head. "Well, nothing much has come up, other than Bree...But, I guess its time I tell you about my past, yeah?" she asked. Esme sighed, knowing that the time was overdue. She should've told him before hand.
"Well, things started to go down hill once you left...you know, when I was sixteen. I always wanted better for myself than what I deserved after seeing you...I guess you could say it was love at first sight" she admitted, and then laughed softly. The pain came into her eyes at the mere thought of her history. Still, she knew it needed to be said.

Carlisle was happy that she was finally thinking about telling him what had happened in her past. He knew that they had met and that he had been her doctor when she was younger, but he had to move when he started to look younger than he was claiming to be, like Carlisle had to do other times. So to him it was just another move... and he didn't realized that the teenage girl he had taken care of for a few years would eventually become his wife. She was such a beauty even as a teenager and that hadn't changed. He felt that her turning into a vampire had only enhanced what she already looked like, to him a perfect angel in so many ways.
She appealed to him not only in looks but in her personality to, she was so kind and compassionate, in things that others would not think twice about doing, like when Jasper had said to kill Bree, she stopped him , telling him that because she said she would reform that she would not do it. It was little things like that that touch Carlisle's heart, that made the un-beating organ feel like it was pounding whenever she was near.
Carlisle nodded when she started telling him of her past. Well she hadn't really started but she was going to tell him and that was what mattered. He took both of her hands in his hands and held them tightly, and then pulled her to him, having her sit between his legs as he kissed her neck holding her tightly. He was listening but this was the closest they have been able to be in a long time and he wanted 'to take advantage of that. He nodded at her to continue.

Esme sighed as she felt her hands in his, and got even closer to him. She gladly sat in between his legs. Although everything had ifnally worked out, she was still afraid. Afraid of her past, and afraid that Carlisle would get angry at her for Esme not telling him sooner. However, she told him anyway.
The topic was a tough one for Esme to think about, let alone tell some one so important to her. In fact,t he only other person she had told her history too had been Bree, and that was to make her feel better about herself.
"When I had been human, my parents had practically forced me into marrying this man...Charles. I remember him perfectly. And it was because he had been abusive...In fact, if I hadnt been turned into a vampire, Im sure I would still have the scars he had left on me...: she said this all very fast, but knew that Carlisle would pick up on every word she said. She hadn't told him how many times she had been beaten an inch from death, and some of the stupid reasons he had hit her for...If he asked, she would tell him, but she didnt want to talk about it more than she had to,
"Anyway, he had went off to war, and when I had heard about that, I had been so happy! The thought of him dying in war meant that I could be left to mend the pieces of my heart by myself, and I could run away However, he survived and came back to be even more abusive" she said, and nodded her head.
"Finally, I had been beaten an inch from death, and had realized I needed to get out of there...As soon as I did, however, I realized I was pregnant with his child..."
Esme was sure this was come as a surprise for Carlisle, and he would want to know why she didnt tell him, so she told him straight away that he hadnt made it.
"Unfortunately, he died a few days later of a lung infection...I had wanted to die. In fact, that was the reason I had jumped off a cliff and had been an inch from death before you saved me..." she trailed off.
Esme hoped that he wouldn't ask anymore questions. "Still, none of that matters. Only you do. Only our family. All of that is gone now. We dont need to worry about Charles, or mys on...Just us"

Carlisle listened to her story with sadness in her heart. He had so many questions but didn't want to overwhelm her with them, he knew that this was a sore subject with her, that she was probably very touchy when it came to people knowing. So instead he just held her, he knew that if they were able to cry thats what she would have been doing, mourning the loss of her son, relishing in the forgetting of her husband.
The mention of him... hitting Carlisle beloved Esme made Carlisle want to cry out, scream, hurt someone. Even though Charles had died a long time ago, Carlisle could never forgive him. A husband, lover, friend... any man who hit a woman deserved to be punished.
Carlisle took a deep breath, calming himself. He kissed her neck, her jaw and smiled down at her. “i am pleased that you took the time to share that with me. I may not agree with your ex husband. But if it weren't for him I would not have you now. I have many questions. One being what sort of things did you do in which he hit you for it? I dont think anything is that bad to where someone should do that. But you dont have to answer them now, because your right, it doesnt matter, there is only us, and our new family. “ He smiled.
Carlisle felt like they were together again for the first time, telling each other about one another, getting to know each other. He moved his hands over her body, exploring, touching her here and there. “Im sorry you had to go through that” He said in a mere whisper in her ear. “but you are mine now” He said possesivly. “and im never letting you go”

Esme turned her head to look at Carlisle, and noticed the anger he held. She only hoped that it hadnt been because of her. She didnt want Carlisle to get angry at her. She wasnt afraid of him hurting her physically. He would never lay a finger on her that way. He was the perfect man, no matter what happened. He was just perfect, and always would be. No one could measure up to Carlisle, no matter how hard they tried.
Esme bit her lip before she had Carlisle's comment, and was glad that he wasnt angry at her for not telling him sooner. It had always just been a touchy subject for her, no matter what. It was a wonder she had told Bree before her husband, but she seeing the girl so scared made Esme want Bree to understand that Esme was scared too, even if the thing, or person she was scared of was long gone...
She looked at him and finally decided to answer. "Some times it would be that I dropped a plate...but the water had been so hot! And it was starting to burn my hands! I needed to drop the plate because it had been hurting!" she said, and looked as if she was begging Charles to stop all over again.
The image of the night had come back to her.
Still, she shook the thought away from her mind and continued with one that had been even more terrifying for her. So much more terrifying.
"And another...I hadnt wanted to have...you know...sex, with him" she said and bit her lip. "So he hit me again and again...and again. SO hard. And then, when I finally gave in, he still hit me for another half hour...there wasnt a place on me that wasnt bruised" she said. If she had been human, by now she would've broken down. "And some times...he hated my friends, so then again, he would 'punish' me...just for smiling at them, and if he thought I was even THINKING about them...he would hit me just to bring me back to the hell that was my life..."
She said all this with her eyes shut, squeezing them as tight as she possibly could, as if she was trying to forget all about it.

Carlisle didnt know what to say then. She looked like she was so far away. Like she was taking herself back to that time and place. He didnt like it, she should be focused on the present, the past was nothing with all the years they were going to live. He hugged her.
Carlisle shook his head “That is stupid” He stated “He was stupid. You shouldnt have been made to do anything, you didnt do anything wrong” he jus theld her for a few more minutes,
“You are truly a magnificent woman, your skin is flawless, you are my angel I couldn't live without you and someone who couldn't appreciate your beauty probably had more problems with himself. You didn tdo anything wrong” Carlisle repeated again. He really believed that the guy was messed up, something had to be wrong with him for him to go and do something to that magnitude, he probably was the reason the baby died also, because of all the blunt force during pregnancy and not something that was just an accident. He hurt her all during it and so the baby.... Carlisle didnt want to think about it anymore.
He kissed Esme hard on the mouth, kissed her with so much passion, and kissed her thoroughly. “why did your parents choose him then? How did the psychopath get in your life didnt they know he was dangerous?”

Despite everything she had just told him, everything she had just relived, she knew that she could deal with the pain just fine, as long as he continued to hold her, and continued to love her. That was all she asked for, just for him to love her like he usually did, and always would.
"I know none of that was my fault...but the worst part was, att he time, I felt like i was nothing, that just breathing was something I shouldn't have been doing..."
Esme swallowed, trying not to think about it. She knew those times were over, and that she would never have to live through them again, no matter what would happen. Carlisle would never hurt her, especially not physically. He was too much of a gentlman, and he loved her so much. Just like she loved him, which was all of her non-beating heart that now had even more room for the passion she held for her family, vampires & Carlisle.
Finally, she smiled at his compliments that she knew was all true through his eyes. She nodded her head then turned slightly so she could kiss his lips gently before she heard his question. She hated to think about it. "Well...He had been a friends of the family...and had learned from his father how to make others believe he was the perfect man for their daughter...and what was worse, was that my mother & father had found out...and they just showed me how to hide it. They didnt try to stop it...just hide it"

Carlisle felt his blood start to boil “They didn't do anything after they found out? Why? What type of sick satisfaction did it give them to know that their daughter was being used and abused?” He tried to make sense of it, to wrap his head around the idea that a family would actually enjoy one of their own getting hurt. Carlisle knew that he was overly protective of his own family and would rip to shreds the person that tried to hurt them or tear them apart. So how did her family not feel the same about their little girl? How could they let some guy just... wail on her and take advantage of her!
Carlisle had to try to calm down. He just kept reminding him that this was before him and her, and that the son of a gun was dead, and had probably been given his dues in hell. “You are not nothing” he said forcefully. “you are my everything, I would not be able to live without you” He thought that if he kept reminding her of that then maybe the past could go away, maybe the hurt could go away. He couldn't change her past, but he could influence her future.
“I love you” Carlisle said looking into her eyes, he brought his hand up to her chin and leaned into her to kiss her, It was a little awkward considering she was in between his legs, but he wanted to kiss her, to taste her... to show her and prove to her what he was saying, actions did speak louder than words.

Esme shook her head before she spoke. "Carlisle...women were treated like that. It was a different time...Of course I would've been treated horribly...and my mother wasnt sure what else to do. She didnt believe women deserved to have a just life...Hence, why I couldn't do anything. And I had been so determind to be the GOOD house wife! Just like I want to do now" she insisted and then bit her lip. "I would do anything to keep you happy...and back then, I would do the same for him" she admitted and then bit her lip.
Esme sighed and ran her fingers through her caramal hair, reminding herself over & over again that she was no longer back in those days, but with Carlisle now. She didnt need to be afraid anymore, and that she had a husband who would never hurt her like that, no matter what she did. He loved her, & she loved him that was all that mattered and ever would.
Esme smiled at his words. NOW she knew she was not nothing, but his everything. She knew that if it hadnt been for Carlils,e she would've been dead, and wouldn't of had the chances she had now had since she had met him. She just loved him so much! She didnt want to stuff anything up!
Finally, she heard her three most favorite words. "Love you too" she responded, then smiled into his lips. She turned her body to make it easier and stood for a moment so she could then sit on his lap, instead of between his legs.
She continued to kiss him gentle and lovingly, like he would always deserved to be kissed.
